How to control my printer?

Control panel unable to detect Printer?

I have HP DeskJet 1000. It have worked fine for an year or so. But few days ago I found a copy of the printer in Control panel Printers. Even though there is only one printer connected.From then Printer didn't function all its operation were aborted. I have tired to remove all the previous installation and re install it. I m unable to understand whether my procedure of drivers installation is wrong or There is something else that I unable to find out? Could it be a virus or malware related problem ? I have got the printer checked for any hardware problem but the printers seemed to be fine? Or there are any problems in the USB cable?

HP has excellent troubleshooting/help pages at their website, if that doesn't help download the latest drivers from the same site.
