I need help with connecting laptop to TV.

Help! I need help connecting laptop to tv through HDMI?

  • TV details~ Toshiba Regza 32AV615DB 32-inch Widescreen HD I seem to be having a problem with connecting my laptop to my tv through HDMI cable.. Laptop~ Dell inspiron Model M5040 (im not very good with details.. sorry.) When i connected the two, i made sure that the tv was on HDMI... and that the cable was going into the right place in both the computer and the laptop. My problem is that the Tv screen goes black (instead of the usual blue when there is nothing connected) and nothing seems to be showing up up on the tv??? I've tried both the duplicate and extend options for the monitors but still nothing seems to be working properly.. I also restarted my computer just to check if that was the problem. I've changed the display settings several times but that doesnt seem to solve the problem either.. Could you guys give me any more suggestions?? thanks. x

It's very simple. Just plug the hdmi into the computer and tv. Then, on your computer, press function(fn) and then press the F8 key at the same time. There should be a pic of a computer with a tv. Just go to that

Typically, when you connect a laptop to another source such as a TV, you have to switch the laptops "output" to that source. I do not have your identical TV or laptop, but this is the way I must do this. On my laptop, there is a key on the keyboard labeled "FN" while pressing this key, and the F8 key (above my F8 key is a small icon of a monitor....yours might resemble this) this will change the output from the laptop to the TV or to turn both TV AND laptop monitors on at the same time. To switch back to the laptop, hit the FN key and the corresponding "F" key again. Hope this helps.
