How to hide application icon programmatically?

I cannot get an application to close by clicking on the 'x' icon in upper right corner of page.?

I cannont get an application to close by clicking on the 'x' icon in the upper right corner of the page. Also, I can't get the application to minimize. When I click on either the close icon or the minimize icon the application freezes. When I open task manager the application is completely terminated even though I did not click to do so. Also, task manager will not close afterwards. I have tried restoring to an earlier state and have ESET anitvirus installed and working. I am running windows XP. I have two other computers running XP that do not have this problem. Can anyone tell me what I need to do to correct the problem? Any assistance is very much appreciated.

When that happened to me I just pulled the plug :p. don't make it any harder. I feel ur pain pal, xp has a lot of issues
