What's it like to be a wildlife tech?

Wildlife Rehabilitator/Vet Tech? Please Help!?

  • Hello, I want to work at a wildlife rehabilitation center/sanctuary. I want to rescue animals, nurse them back to health & then release them. If they can not be released, I want to train them for educational purposes to teach the public about them. This is my dream job, however I know as only a vet tech, or only a wildlife rehabiliator, you pretty much live paycheck to paycheck. If I find a place where I can do both jobs, will I be paid both wages combined? I also looked into being a wildlife rehabilitation center manager/director. How would I go about this? Is there any way I can do all 3? Also, what courses/classes should I take in college, and what degree should I get? What should I major in? Please help! The semester starts soon and I need to know what I want to become. Thank you!

  • Answer:

To start with I rehabbed for 25 years this is NOT a paid job it 's done from your own pocket that's why there are so few who do it . You have to be licensed in your state . Ther are a lot of laws to abide by and cage requirements . Again this is your responsibility . In my state of Ohio we were required to be non profit, this is not a business. It's something we did because we loved it .If any one wants this for fame and fortune choose something else ! LOL it's very expensive. Good luck your heart is sure in the right place.
