Good surround sound receiver?

Does anyone own Rotel Rsx 1057 surround sound receiver? Is it a good deal to buy it used?

  • I know that is older and outdated some. Has it given any of you any troubles? I heard it, and thought that it sounded good. Is $700.00 a good deal for it? it is leftover store demo

  • Answer:

The Rotel RSX 1057 is a high quality well built surround unit that got good reviews in 2007 and sold for $1200 in in its hey day.....it does not have the latest codec (ie Dolby HD and True HD) which is becomming more and more popular on Blu Ray disks, it also only has two HDMI inputs which is low even for an enrty level AV receiver now adays, but has pleatly of analog connections, conversion is to Component not HDMI so component will probably yield a better signal than HDMI on some sources... so this causes it to be somewhat dated, there is one selling on E-bay for $375 so I would think that $700 is kind of high, although the one on e-bay is used... for $700 you could get a new Marantz SR 5006 or a Denon AVR 2312ic...I think I would be inclined to get a newer unit with the latest codec and a warranty but a lot has to do with personal taste, how nostalgia oriented you are and if you plan on using the extensive analog connections to your advantage....reliability should be very good considering the build quality...
