How do i Fully Restore my Computer?

How can I restore files that came on my computer (new)?

  • I bought the computer new. It is a HP pavilion g4. The screen has been buzzing out a little so I was going to send it back to get fixed. When I was backing up my files so if anything got deleted, I wouldnt need to worry, I realized that a lot of the moved files no longer worked (i suspect they needed other parts to open) such as games or software. A lot of these files and applications came with the computer and, since they are official versions, I would rather just find a way to restore them to my computer. When I move the files and applications back, nothing works. I'm thinking about just restoring my computer to factory settings while keeping any files and easily replaced software on an external hard drive. I am decent with computers, but I am not sure about what files and applications need to run properly so I would easily miss something when fixing the file. So what should I do? Should I just try to do my best in finding these files and probably failing, or should I try to do a restore? And what type of restore would I do? I do not have any reliable restoration backups for my computer. Thanks any help is appreciated. 10 points for best answer!

Programs, like games, utilities, office, etc need to be installed to work. It's more than finding files and putting them in the right place (that alone could be a huge pain in the ..neck). So to have a backup for these you need to have the .exe .msi/.msu or cd you used to install them in the first place (the installer), to reinstall. Data files, like pictures, .txt, .pdf, etc can be just copied or moved without any problems. So my opinion is to do a full system restore, it's much cleaner and the way to go, despite the fact that you have to download again all the updates and reinstall any custom programs you have installed. To do so, you should press an F key or combination at computer start up (I think it's F11 for HP) to get you into recovery mode. If you move files from external hard drive to a computer often does not work I suggest you try to check the USB cable is connected between the external hard drive to your computer. If the external USB hard drive connected to the computer placing loose or not good cause failed deliveries are sometimes seen, although there is the process of moving files from external hard drive to your computer. So the best thing to do is disconnect the external hard drive by unplugging its USB cable. Then you restarted your computer and do plug the USB cable to the external hard drive of your computer. Please do transfer files from external hard drive to your computer. If the above does not yield results, the file still can not be transferred to your computer I think the damage has been done on your Windows system ..
