Why won't my app run in the IOS simulator?

Is the iOS 3.1 update worth buying on iTunes for my 1G iPod Touch?

  • I haven't updated the software on my iPod Touch (1st gen, had it for about 4 yrs) since at least 1.5 yrs ago. The apple website suggests I purchase their new software off iTunes. Here is a small list of problems I have run into as a result of not updating: - After pressing the genius button, it crashes (music stops playing and it returns to the home screen). - Most of the apps available in the app store need recent software and won't run on my current software. - The internet runs very slowly, no matter how good my wifi spot is. The music playback and battery life are still great so I don't feel like buying a new one, and those are the two most important qualities in an iPod to me. Should I go ahead and buy the update? Jailbreak it? Try to find the software somewhere else for free? What are your thoughts?
