How can I become a doctor in Korea?

University in Korea - could I eventually become a doctor?

  • I have heard a few stories of foreigners becoming doctors in Korea, and it combines two things I've wanted to do for a while now. I was thinking about going to university there and learning Korean before going on to study medicine. Would this be possible if I became fluent? I'm from the UK if that changes anything.

  • Answer:

    1. Even Korean denizens have a hard time getting a job. A foreigner has no advantage. 2. Koreans prefer a Korean doctor than someone else. 3. You don't need to go to a Korean college to learn Korean. The Internet is available. 4. You would have to study Korean very hard if you even want to be fluent enough to become a doctor. You know, every single medical term there is, ect.

Other answers

To my knowledge, foreign doctors and lawyers are not allowed to practice in Korea. They can only work as medical and legal advisors. The only exception is if a foreign doctor has a Korean medical license, which very few doctors have done. Without a Korean medical degree, Foreign doctors are generally allowed to work only in foreign clinics at hospitals in the position of "Medical Advisor", Their job is usually to examine outpatients and refer them to the appropriate Korean doctor for further examination and treatment or to translate between patients and Korean medical staff.
