SM Entertainment Audition tips/advice?
-
I got inspired by K-pop groups like SHINee, Super Junior, and SNSD and I'd like to audition for SM Entertainment in about a year so that I could practice the categories and routines. I'm 13 right now, I'm about 5'2, I'm Filipino, and I need some advice and tips to help me during my audition when I'm about 14 :) 1) Does SM pay attention to facial appearance? I have under eye circles and I think there hereditary.. 2) Do the judges care if you have braces? I need my braces for another year and a half. 3) How should I greet the judges once I walk into the audition room? I know poised and confident, but what should I say to them? And will they be speaking English? 4) If I do make the first audition, will SM pay for maybe one family member's airfare? Because my mom probably wouldn't let me fly alone to Korea. 5) I have a little bit of belly fat, but it's only visible if I sit down. And my arms and legs are thin, but my thighs are meaty.. Would SM pay for diets and stuff? 6) Is it best to sing an English song? I want to sing a Korean song, but I read somewhere that the judges might think that I would just be auditioning for that group/person. They'd also think that I wouldn't have any interest in singing/dancing. 7) If I got accepted as a trainee, where would the training take place? Would I have to move to Korea? And would I have to train every single day? 8) What kind of song would be good for the freestyle dance part? Do they give you a certain song to dance to or can you bring them a song you want to dance to? 9) Is plastic surgery decided/recommended by SM or myself? And if I were to get plastic surgery, would SM pay for it? These questions are a little more about expenses and costs, but if anyone can help me with more advice and tips, I'd appreciate it! :)

Answer:
1) yes they do care about your appearance. but under eye circles shouldn't be much of an issue 2) braces? well if it means you're going to have perfect teeth that's good. and if you audition and get accepted then by the time you've debuted then it would have been gone. 3) say annyeonghaseyo and what your name is 4) i'm not sure if they'll pay the expense for another person. 5) if they think you're not skinny enough but accept you for your skills they'll probably put you on a diet program. 6) look. you don't need to sing korean. you can. singers like ailee were discovered for their talent through english songs. pick something challenging to sing. 7) you would probably have to move to korea. i've heard that sm's training program is pretty tough. it's almost every day. they probably train you everyday so you can debut sooner 8) i'm not sure if you can pick but good songs: love song - bi rain the boys - snsd oh! - snsd shock - b2st be mine - infinite lucifer - shinee 9) if they don't like your appearance they'd probably tell you to get plastic surgery. they would probably pay for this. good luck! hope you get in and training is easier than what they say.

1. Shouldn't be much of a problem in your case. 2. Braces won't be a problem since trainees usually train approximately 3-5 years, so yours should be gone by then ;) 3. Be careful not to be too confident. Also you should show them that you have a really high motivation and that you're hard-working as well <= Though I think this will more important later on. In the beginning a normal formal greeting and introduction probably in Korean would be enough. In case they want to know anything else, they'll ask. 4. As far as I know they will pay your ticket to Korea, but not for anyone else, so if your mother wants to accompany you, she'll have to pay for herself. 5. Once they've accepted you as a full trainee, then they'll probably recommend you to diet. Though trainees usually don't get much to eat anyway from what I've heard. 6. I don't think it really matters if it's english or korean, but you should choose a song that fits your voice best. You know sort of bring out the strong points. 7. I'm not really sure about this one. Well training is definitely done in Korea, but I know of some cases, where new trainees who lived further away only had to train on weekends and the rest had to be done in their private time at home. Now in your case it'd be probably too expensive to get you to fly in every weekend. Plus you would also require to attend some korean language school, wouldn't you. I guess this will have to be worked out once you'll know the result. 8. I'm not sure if you can choose the song. If I remember correctly they will usually just put one on and test your abilities on the spot. 9. It can be recommended by SM or it can also be brought up by you, though that will take place rather later not right after you enter the company. Usually if the plastic surgery is done while you're still a trainee the company will pay for it. This is actually one of the reasons why the company keeps quite a bigger amount of the money that their idols bring in once they have debuted. Well hope that was at least a little usefull. Good luck!

1) Does SM pay attention to facial appearance? I have under eye circles and I think there hereditary. SM pays ALOT of attention to look, but I don't think they'll mind that. 2) Do the judges care if you have braces? I need my braces for another year and a half. Hmm . . . I've never seen a K-pop star with brace. Plus, I guess it would depend on what type you have. If you have clear ones I don't think they would care much, but if you don't then they would take that into consideration when you audition. But if you do get taken in as a trainer then you'll probably loose the braces during that time since the minimum for training is 2-5 years. 3) How should I greet the judges once I walk into the audition room? I know poised and confident, but what should I say to them? And will they be speaking English? They'll have a translator. If you know some Korean then you could greet them or introduce yourself, but if you don't then just state what you're going to do (sing, dance, etc.) and do it. 4) If I do make the first audition, will SM pay for maybe one family member's airfare? Because my mom probably wouldn't let me fly alone to Korea. No. They'll only pay for you once you're a trainee. If you're not, then it's your money you're using. 5) I have a little bit of belly fat, but it's only visible if I sit down. And my arms and legs are thin, but my thighs are meaty.. Would SM pay for diets and stuff? You would have to go on a diet yourself. Just eat healthy and exercise regularly. If you become trainee, then they'll put you on a strict diet along with a heavy schedule. 6) Is it best to sing an English song? I want to sing a Korean song, but I read somewhere that the judges might think that I would just be auditioning for that group/person. They'd also think that I wouldn't have any interest in singing/dancing. You can sing whatever you want. First, you should sing an english song. If they ask for you to sing another one, then switch to a Korean song. If you do that then you'll show them that you can understand or read hangul/the romanization. 7) If I got accepted as a trainee, where would the training take place? Would I have to move to Korea? And would I have to train every single day? I think you would have to move to South Korea under SM. It would take place in Korea of course, but I don't know exactly where. And majority of your days would have large schedules in them. I don't think you'll get a break off. 8) What kind of song would be good for the freestyle dance part? Do they give you a certain song to dance to or can you bring them a song you want to dance to? Are you going for the weekly auditions? You should bring a CD with you if you are. If you don't. then they'll play something random. For the global auditions, they'll play something random. 9) Is plastic surgery decided/recommended by SM or myself? And if I were to get plastic surgery, would SM pay for it? SM might want you to have plastic surgery, but it's not decided/recommended by them. It's your own choice, but if you do get plastic surgery then it's your own money you're using.
