  • ok so I am 16 years old and I recently got a call from a store manager at a local Starbucks he told me he wanted me to come on for an interview he was really nice but I am extremely nervous. The interview is Monday but it's my first interview and first job. I have no experience besides baby sitting snack bars etc.. Anyways what do I wear? Slacks button up or more casual? Also what do I bring I don't really have a resume because I'm so young. I'm really nervous and exited at the same time any advice would be appreciated thank you!:)

The old rule is that you come to the interview dressed as you would be for the job. So nothing too fancy, but clean, well-groomed. You don't need a resume, you don't have anything to put on it anyway. The application will ask what grade you're in, and that's all they really have to know. For a job like this you are hired not for what you know but for what you can learn. And even if you've had a lot of jobs (as I have), no matter how much you know, you're still hired for what you can learn, because every job is different. So don't beat yourself up for being a beginner. That's just what they're looking for! What they really want are two things. One is a person who is not afraid of hard work, someone with enthusiasm and energy who can stay excited and motivated for a full shift. If you get the job you'll be surprised just how hard it is! The other thing is a person who's good with people, who can serve the public with a big smile. That also is harder than you might think. So at the interview you smile a lot. You answer questions directly. You look in the interviewer's eyes when he talks to you or you talk to him, like you have nothing to hide. For gosh sake, don't pretend to know all about coffee! In fact if you do know anything, dummy up. They want to train you. 8^) Good luck! EDIT: One more thing. Every employment interview you have in your whole life helps you, it makes you better at your next interview. I used to work temporary, three weeks here, two months there, and I had a LOT of interviews. And they got to be really familiar, I got to know how to answer the questions, and I had more and more confidence. So at the VERY WORST, I mean if you can't answer any of the questions and you throw up on the rug and they call security to throw you out, this interview, since it's your first, will enormously improve your -next- interview! There is no substitute for experience! So go get 'em!

dress casual, bring a pen and paper, and your ID and social security card , if you get the job he'll need to copy those, other than that its your first job and its starbucks, take it easy cheesy, just be yourself and tell the truth

Wear business casual. Slacks and a button up, maybe a tie. If you have volunteer experience you can put that on a resume along with your babysitting. At least make a resume and bring it. I found a template in Microsoft publisher and used it to make mine. Make sure you have ID on you too and know your social security number in case they have you fill out paperwork. Sometimes they will hire you on the spot. If you have a food handlers permit tell them that. Interviews can be really nerve racking. Try practicing answering interview questions with someone you know. Look up what Starbucks asks in an interview. I'm sure you can find something. Research Starbucks and find what you like about the company. Know about the social/economic issues they support. Just become familiar with the company in general. Overall, be yourself and don't be afraid to brag a bit. I got my first job in December. I was picked out of 100 much more experienced applicants but they were impressed by how I carried myself and my confidence. It's ok to be nervous but if you prepare for the interview you should be fine. I hope you get the job!! :)
