Question about Yosemite- Upper Pines?

Yosemite upper pines camping, exceeding headcount per site?

  • I have a reservation in Upper Pines, they said max of 6 ppl per site but I have 7 or 8. Would it be a problem? Also its the Memorial Day weekend

  • Answer:

Yes it will be a problem you should have booked two sites. Over crowding a campsite is not polite to the other campers in the campground and the increased noise and commotion is a major detraction from the total experience. They could, at the minimum make you pay an additional fee or at the worst give you a citation and make you leave. Now ask yourself is it worth it? @Well since you added that note, split the group up the late comers can stay at the lakes. It is a nice place more tolerant of a larger group. However as I stated before traffic will be an issue for the holiday weekend and your extra friends may not be able to join you for any activities. Good luck working out the details

Send part of your group backpacking or dispersed camping outside Yosemite National Park. See: National Forest. Personally, I would hate to camp in Yosemite National Park during high season. You would all have a better time in a National Forest Campground.

MountainMan

Upper Pines is very crowded, partially because everyone violates the 6 person rule. Rangers are more concerned with the number of vehicles in your site and proper food storage.

Skier Dude

Upper Pines campground is very crowded to begin with, it's also heavily policed. Enjoy your wilderness experience.
