What is International Studies?

What would be better to major into International Studies or Anthropology?

  • I heard it was bad to major into anything that has the word "studies" in it... I know there's a wide field to go into if I major into International Studies but I was wondering if I would make more going into International Studies or Anthropology... thanks.

    Most people I know that do International Studies majors become an ESL teacher. However, you can do a lot with that major. You can do public relations, communications, law enforcement, and a vacation advisor. If your real passion is studying culture, you should study anthropology. If you are more interested in the "bones" aspect of anthropology, an archaeology degree would probably better suit you. There are not many jobs with either one of these degrees. To become a "forensic" anthropologist usually requires a Ph.D. Most people end up working in a completely different field, work as a museum tour guide, or end up in law enforcement with an anthropology degree.

From an employment perspective, it's like choosing between cholera and the plague! They are both 'wide fields', and very interesting. For jobs - just check the want ads. Where would a person find an ad for someone with a major in either? Unless as a prerequisite to another program, both are basically useless, except as a symbol of your diligence/attendence in some educational program. It would make a lot more sense to major in Accounting, or anything related to medical care.
