  • Answer:

You could start by asking your art teacher where s/he went to college. Go the Department of Education website for your state. It will have a listing of all the colleges and universities in your state that offer teacher education majors that lead to teaching certification. Depending on the state, there may be a way to filter to show just colleges with art education in your state. Your bachelors degree in art education typically takes 4 years. After graduating and teaching for a year or so, you will start your masters program and do that work in the summers with an evening class each semester until you finish it. Yes, during your college training, you will need to become adept at many forms of art, perhaps some that you haven't even tried yet. You need to become competent in all art media that you might be required to teach in any grade. Yes, you will be certified K-12 so you will also study child development and learn proper instructional strategies for all grades.

First make sure you're good at art. My middle school art teacher sucks. I'm better at art than she is
