Should I learn Hindi?

I've already studied it briefly to get a feel of the language. The grammar seems simple, the writing system takes a little time but is a fun challenge. The words are easy for me to pronounce. My main concern is the real value of the language. India has a lot of English speakers. Plus, not even half the population speaks it. I really like the sound and structure of the language but I get discouraged when people tell me it's useless to learn. I don't know if I should just learn because I have a passion for it or if I should drop it and choose another. I AM a language enthusiast. Also, I have an Indian I keep in contact with often. He is from Hyderabad. His first language is Telugu but he says he speaks 'Hyderabadi Hindi' as well. I'm not totally sure what that dialect is like.

If your heart races for Hindi, learn it. What do you know; you could be learning some new things that weren't available in English! Right now, India's economy is boosting up up up (it's even a member of BRICS), and its technology-related firms employ people who speak Hindi and English.
