Why is my 1-year-old waking up in the middle of the night again?
-
Our baby was sleeping through the entire night at 2 months: we had to force him up to get his midnight feedings, and sometimes it was impossible to feed him at all because he was so asleep. He slept through the entire night up until he was about 6 months old. About 4 nights a week, he would wake up, some nights it would just take some rocking to get him back to sleep, other nights a bottle, but either way it would only take 15 minutes. Then he started sleeping through the night again every night at 8 months. Around his first birthday, he started waking up in the middle of the night again and it was harder to get him back to sleep, but I assumed it was because we were spending a month out of town, moving around to visit family members, taking long car rides...I dealt with it through the trip and hoped he would go back to a normal sleeping schedule after a few nights at home. Well, we've been home now for 3 weeks, back to our regular routine, and he's been waking up EVERY night. He won't settle for anything less than a diaper change and a bottle, despite the fact that he doesn't need it (he's got hardly anything in his diaper until morning and he only ever drinks about 2 oz of a bottle). We always wrap him up and give him a bottle before naps, but he's still got his eyes open and rolls around a bit when we first put him in his crib; and when he's been fussy, we've left him to cry it out and he'll be asleep within 5 minutes. But these midnight callings are never like that; it's a full on cry like the morning, and when you pick him up, he's as alert as our hound in the woods on a hunting day. And he fights naps to the death, so I can't make up for it in the daytime. At around 3 months, he used to not take naps during the day at all, but I was grateful if it meant sleeping through the night, and I feel the same way now, but I'm not getting either. He finally started taking naps during the day when he was about 10 months, and it was usually 2, hour-long naps during the day. Since then, the naps have been pushed back further and further to the point where he has one nap at 3pm (varying between 30 minutes and 3 hours long) and that's it...the 2nd nap has merged with bed time, which isn't that consistent anymore either. What's the deal? How can I get him to sleep through the night again? I'm 15 weeks pregnant, and I need all the sleep I can get.

Answer:
Cut down on his nap time during the day if possible. My 3 yo did this too i found out the room wasn't comfortable for her. We put lots of stuffed animals and things around her crib and got this lavender spray which helps ppl fall asleep. The room had to be a certain temp too. She got cold very eassily.... good luck
