Found wild baby house sparrow birds?
-
Yesterday evening a couple of the neighborhood girls "found a nest" that had 4 baby sparrow birds in it. They said 1 of the birds has died so I took the other 3 and the nest and took care of them for the night. My plan was to call the Wildlife place today and take them into there and have them raise them. When I called this morning they said to put the nest in a tree and the mom will listen for their call and them will take care of them. I watched the tree for about 3 hours and no birds came by. My other issue is that there is a storm coming and I dont want the whole nest to fall out of the tree. Im not sure what my options are now. I have been feeding them wet dog food and soggy wheat bread. I also have 3 dogs that would just love to get to them. I just dont know what to do now.

Answer:
Did the cats have the baby birds in their mouths? Do the birds have any feathers? They could have infection from puncture wounds from the cat. Please never feed birds bread, it contains yeast, which is undigestable by birds. There is no nutritional value, and will only take up space in their stomachs, and not allow them to eat what is good for them. Is the tree near the original nesting spot? If possible, place it at the same height, facing the same direction, and secure it to the tree, with wire, cord, string, whatever. If possible, make sure there is overhead protection from the weather, a large branch that would keep the young dry. Call the center back, and let them know that you've not seen the parents for many hours, they may suggest you bring them in before the storm. Good luck.

First: You should have left it. Haven't you heard if you find a birds nest to leave it alone? (I'm not being mean but I promise my voice isn't talking to you like your a child or something. You can't type the tone of voice) :) Second: If they aren't eating what your feeding them then try this: Hard boil a couple eggs, take the yoke and mash it up, then add water until it is liquidy but not totally watery.. Finally, get an eye dropper or syringe and squeeze some in their mouth. Eggs have a lot of protein. Third: I would call back and tell them straight up, "Some little girls in my neighborhood stole some baby sparrows out of a tree, a storm is coming and the mom won't claim them." They have to be fed every 45 minutes -goodluck

Starling Talk website has a lot of information on House Sparrows. It seriously is the best resource on the internet for caring for orphaned birds. http://www.starlingtalk.com/community/ Good luck! P.S. I've edited this to add something... the person below me said to give them water with a syringe. DO NOT DO THIS! Baby birds get all of their moisture from the food they eat. You risk drowning them or otherwise causing them to aspirate fluid, which would kill them in a day or two. Just go to starling talk and ignore the advice below!
