Why won't my Slim Universal remote control turn on?

How to make your DVR remote control turn up and down the volume and turn off and on the tv?

• My mom has the most up to date DVR. We live in Dallas, Texas. I don't like the new one at all I wish she'd need to go back to the other one. I and my bro have the one with the orange light on it and she has the one with the blue light on it. Ya know the lights that shows the channels and also the time right?? I think the difference between my box and her box is my mother's can fast forward rewind and record but my box cannot do any of that unless if I am watching a show or movie on demand. We have been trying ever since we got this box to make the remote control the volume as well. The remote works when your changing the channel also it can turn off the box but it cannot turn off the tv or turn up and down the volume. I guess the cable guy didn't do his job by making sure everything worked. Can anyone here explain in a detailed way how to make the remote turn up the volume and also turn off and on the tv? Oh by the way on my mother's remote it does not have set-up but it does have settings so we cannot do the 9-9-3 code or whatever it is.. Anyone out there got this kind of box? To me it sucks and she should go back to the other one. It's smaller than the other one as well it's all black and the lights on it are like a light blue. We have TWC (Time Warner cable). I am telling you this so you can know how it looks and get a idea about it... Do they have a web site that I can go to? My parents lost the paper that comes with the box... Pls explain very detailed... :(

  TWC uses various remotes. Go to the TWC website http://www.twc.com click on the program your remote link, and put in your zip code and match the picture of the remotes with yours. Then download the instruction manual.
