Computer won't recognize my video card?
-
I have a dell e521 and it has a geforce 6150le video card. The plug that goes from the monitor to computer has a blue end on (i thinks its vga). So i bought an evga geforce 8600 gt and i installed and the cord that goes from the monitor to computer (where i put the video card) has a white end on it (i think its pci e or something). The monitor doesn't go on when the cord is plugged in even when i disabled the other video card. The 8600 gt has power but no display. There is only display when the blue cord is plugged in to the computer.

For future reference, be sure about what the problem is. For now your going to have to troubleshoot. Check each of these components in order, when you get a picture you will know the cause. Google the card model number and check for minimum PSU rating, does your PSU meet that. If not buy one that does VGA cable by switching it with a known working one Monitor by plugging the cable into another monitor (many flat screen TVs have a VGA port) Check each VGA port on the graphics card and motherboard Check the card by it taking out, and putting it back in, make sure it is in properly in the PCIe x16 slot nearest the I/O back panel. Check to see if you have installed any power connectors to the card if any. Change to an alternative PCIe x16 slot if one exists Put in the old card and repeat all above steps Check the memory by taking out all sticks and testing each individually If you get this far buy a new computer

I think you are referring to the difference between VGA and DVI connectors, if the monitor has separate DVI and VGA inputs you may have to select the input on the monitor's control menu. The Evga video card should have come with a DVI-I to VGA adapter, which you can us to check the new card's operation using the monitors VGA input, if that works the the odds are good that the DVI connector will work right if you connect it right.
