Blank screen on Laptop?

My Asus laptop screen appears blank :( (10 Points)?

  • Ok well for all of those that think I am trolling, I am using my old laptop from 2005, it is slow, takes 5 Min's to load 1 web page and i'm annoyed with it in the 1st 6 web clicks. Ok well I was on my laptop earlier at about 4pm, I only visited 2 websites in this time. That being yahoo and this forum website I have been using for about a month now. I needed to go out somewhere for 2 hours and when I get back, I open my laptop and it says 30% downloaded. I turn the laptop off immediately because I think it was a virus (I didn't ask the computer to download anything.) Then when I turn it back on, well the laptop itself works Perfect but all it gives me is a blank screen. And one of the lights that is supposed to be solid green is flashing green instead. Please give me advice on how I can fix this because I have a saved assignment on that laptop and if I don't get it in tomorrow I'll be in crap with the teacher. Please Help :(

its was probably downloading an update to speed up the operating system ;) ... seriously it was probably just an update. if you were downloading a virus, chances are it would be instant (they are only a few kb in size) and you wouldn't have even known. do you get a blank screen at the post screen (power on self test)? Normally you get an option in white text to enter the setup/bios. If you're not seeing that then chances are the screen has died. If you are seeing the write text then enter safe mode by pressing F8 after the post screen has gone. If you can get into safemode then use a USB pen drive to take off your assignment. Then never use the laptop again.

yes, and if you had hovered over the download Icon, it would have said Microsoft updates !! There are new updates released every the Thursday (Patch Thursday) and a big update every month (thursday also) if you have had your PC off for a while, it will immediately download the latest to 'keep you FREE of virus and the like attacks' And if you turned it off by crashing it, then you likely did more damage yourself and corrupted the disk... as it was trying to write the downloaded files to disk as you crashed it... Good think is, it should recover IF you give it time. And it may be a long time (hours) as it checks and double checks all the files to see which ones have not been damaged and removed the partially written one cleanly. If you leave it connected to the internet it will also go on to download and install the latest patches (it may need to repeat after a reboot again - as some patches have to be installed in specific order) Oh, some patches install on powerup, and (horribly) MS does not tell you, they just leave you with blank screen - but it will finish and power up correctly after 5-15 mins (some are very long installs). So go power it on, and leave it on for a good while if it does not come back after say 3 hours, try shutting it down and starting it up again, and leave it for say 24 hours.... next time DONT PANIC !! but shut things down cleanly.
