Do I need a blackberry phone to use a Blackberry playbook?

Can my blackberry tablet /playbook connect to my phone so I can use the internet off my phone?

  • I haven't bought it yet because i'm still unsure whether I want a tablet or an ipad, I already own a blackberry and I have unlimited internet on it so I thought it would be smarter to buy a tablet. Anyway, my school have a block on their WiFi which doesn't allow any student to use youtube or twitter, etc.. so I was wondering if there was anyway to use the internet off my blackberry phone on the blackberry tablet, is there a cable or anything that connects the them? Or a software I can download?

  • Answer:

YES you can get Internet on your playbook with the bridge app you install on your blackberry phone. It's a free app in the appworld called blackberry bridge. It uses bluetooth so not cable is required. Depending on your carrier, so may block it. In the USA.. Verizon allows the bridge, but AT&T tries to charge you for it. But there are ways to get it to work for free. Please make the choice for yourself about whether you get a playbook or not. I have had once since last June and I really love it. Great browser with flash (best of any tablet), plenty of good apps now...still missing Skype and netflix, but angry birds, cut the rope, Lara Croft, etc are all available. Also if offers the best multitasking of any tablet.

Yeah the playbooks comes with a thing called bridge where you can connect your tab to your bb via bluetooth then you can use the Internet and receive bbm. I had a playbook and i took mine back i had problems with it as soon as I got it out the box if i was you i would get a ipad all day long I have the new ipad and the ipad 2 get either one of them they are practically the same I wish I hadn't wasted my money on the new ipad 3. The playbook is very bad get ipad instead

I recently bought a iPad after being advised not to buy a Playbook as there are a limited amount of apps and blackberry are moving to business machines (no idea what those are). I hope I haven't spoiled it for you. I'm sure it's a great machine in all other respects. I'm sure you can tether a blackberry phone to a playbook if that's the phone you have, not sure about other models. Stay cool!
