Can My Digital Camera be a webcam?

CAN I USE THIS DIGITAL CAMERA OF MINE AS A WEBCAM FOR CHATTING?

  • i have a very good sony digital camera of 10.1 megapixel and 10x zoom.with the camera there is a usb cable with which we can transfer the pics from camera to computer and vice versa.the cable also has 3 additional plugs of red,white and yellow colour. I was wondering can i use this digital camera as a webcam for chatting in skype or yahoo messenger or anywhere.if yes then how to do it?? thanks in advance.

THAT ALL DEPENDS ON THE CAMERA BUT IT'S NOT LIKELY! Annoying as heck isn't it? There is no need to post in all caps. It all depends on the abilities of the camera. While there are some cameras out there that advertise the ability to act as a webcamera, most however are configured to use the USB Cable to supply power to charge the battery (USB provides 5 volts DC) and to connect the camera as a removable storage device. Meaning that unless your camera is one of the ones made to act as a webcam, it's going to act in much the same way as if you plugged in a Flash Drive, or a card reader and inserted a memory card.

I dont think that is possible for any camera, any brand. Reason is that for chatting your require - a) a camera which can transmit view from your side b) some connectiovotu like LAN, wifi etc to tarnsfer the videos c) a receiver also to received and decode signals from other video point. So the answer is NO. Cameras are meants to click pics only.

sorry but u cant us it as a webcam the usb cable is for transferring pics and videos to laptop or pc while the three cables are to connect it to a tv... all the cables go in the respective colour ports at the back or side....
