Am I taking too much Tylenol?

Taking tylenol and worrying about damaging my liver?

  • So I am 13 years old now, and i have been taking tylenol ever since i was four because i get migraines. I used to take about 2 tylenols every month, but lately, over the past year my migraines have gotten alot worse, and I have been taking about 7 or 8 tylenols a month. I am really worried about damaging my liver, and could anyone tell me how much damage I have already done? I drink lots and lots of water with the tylenol

  • Answer:

u were not taking tylenol daily but 2 tab a month and now 7-8 a month chronic daily use can cause hepatotoxicity it is also important whether u had any liver disease or not (and as you didn't mention so you didn't have any liver disease) alcohol consumption along with acetaminophen use is also important as it can lead to hepatotoxicity what I believe your liver is not damaged yet BUT you need to go for lab tests for confirmation and also consult you physician and btw are u taking this by yourself (self medication) ? EDITED* so if you are taking as per doctor's prescription then you don't need to worry about

It's true that taking excessive Tylenol can cause liver damage, but if you are only taking 7-8 per month, you are probably OK. My best advice to you is to get checked out by a doctor. If you are having true migraines, there are a lot better meds out there that can help you. My husband has migraines and takes them. Don't worry... they won't make you loopy or sleepy or anything like that. They just get rid of the migraine! No one should have to live in that much pain. If they're not migraines (there's a difference between migraines and regular headaches, though regular headaches can still hurt really badly), your dr can also run some tests to see what may be causing them and give you a course of treatment. You don't want to have to keep taking tylenol the rest of your life. Maybe there is a way they can treat it and you won't have to deal with it any more. Good luck!
