What is the exact Difference Between Part Time Courses and Self Supportive Courses?

  • Hi all, I am Planning to do a PG Course at Madras University, Chennai. Some days ago, the University Posted their Admission notification Ad in an News paper.. There were many courses posted in that. There were actually two types of Courses - 1) Admission Based on Marks in Qualifying Examination. 2) Admission Based On Entrance Test. Well Admission based on Ent Test means, the Univ will conduct an Test and will give admission. What about Admission bases on Marks in Qualifying Exam? So no entrance? (Please Remember, this is time of the yr when Madras univ posts Regular courses Ad in news papers. They post separate Ad for Correspondence courses in news paper later in june) Ok you can leave the above too (as i will get confirmed for The univ itself). But i have a common doubt here.. What is the Diference between a Part Time Course and Self Supporting Course? In that Madras univ ad, its mentioned like this - PT stands for - Part Time * stands for - Self Supportive courses FT Stands for - Full time Since its mentioned Separably as PT and *(star), i would assume that both Part time and Self Supportive are NOT the same..! So what is the Difference? How Self supportive Differs for Full time too? Also tell me, why Part time is also called as Correspondence course..? If these are different too. Then pls explain me- 1) What is a Full Time Course? 2) What is a Part Time Course? 3) What is a Self Supportive Course? 4) What is a Correspondence Course? Please help, i am confused.... :(

  • Answer:

    1) 12 or more credit hours is considered to be full-time (Full Time courses). 2) Part-time studies are generally classified as being under 75% of the standard full- time load of #16 units per year (most courses equate to #2 units). 3) It means the fees collected from the students go towards payment of salaries for the staff. Similarly, the hostel charges and food expenses are also the actual amount , without making any profit.(Self Supportive Course) 4) A correspondence course is a type of distance learning. (Correspondence course)
