What are some endangered species in the chapparal?

What endangered species inhabit Pedernales Falls State Park?

  • I've been searching everywhere, yet apparently there is only one endangered animal in Pedernales Falls State Park: the Golden-cheeked Warbler. My science teacher says that there are much more in the area, yet I can't seem to find any websites or sources that tell me what other endangered species inhabit the area. The only species that appears consistently is the Golden-cheeked Warbler.

  • Answer:

Not much of a help here. As birding is actually quite popular, it is little wonder the golden-cheeked is given quite a bit of attention. But I'm sure other endangered species, both plant and animal, occur here. Often such species are not given much attention as they garner little interest from most people (imagine the "excitement" of a unique type of grass or sedge that looks pretty much exactly like any other grass or sedge). Most people think of something so universally exciting as a tiger or giant panda when they think "endangered." Anyhoo, I'd probably go ahead and ask away at their facebook page. Certainly a park naturalist could assist you better: http://www.facebook.com/pedernalesfalls
