How are the classes at job corps?

Anyone know about Job Corps?

  • I am gonna be 20 years old soon. I graduated high school in April 2010. I went to an alternative high school for my second semester senior year. I went to a community college for three semesters. (A year and a half). I failed all of my classes except for one. Not because I'm dum but because I just didn't go to classes much. I hardly ever went. Ditched a lot. So I finally decided to just drop out for this semester. So now I owe about $1,000 for school. And I can't pay that money right now since I don't have a job. I haven't been contacted yet about the money I owe though. I just know I owe it. And right now my status at school is that I am on academic probation. So my question is, could I be able to go to Job Corps? Even owing this money? They say everything in Job Corps is for free.... Does anyone know the whole process to go to this school? Like what are some requirements and stuff? I live in California. The nearest Job Corp campus to me is the San Bernardino one. But I could also go to the San Diego one.

  • Answer:

I don't know very much about Job Corps but I heard that place kinda sucks. People I've known that have gone there say its a military style camp you gotta stay at for i think at least three months. You have to spend nights there and they administer all kinds of drug test and stuff. then the jobs they provide suck as well. I don't know if all this is true but that's what I've heard.

I don't know much but I too once considered Job Corps (well I still kind of am & I am closest to the San Bernardino one as well) I'm pretty sure you can still go even though you owe the money . Your first step is to research the website & request an information brochure . Then attend an Orientation you should give them your information & I think they would call you . They drug test , not sure if this is something you would be worried about or not . But yeah I suggest checking the website / giving them a call . Good Luck!

First you have to call 800 733 JOBS and speak with an admissons counselor. Then you attend orientation, then you have an interview with your admissions counselor, after that you choose the top three centers you would like to go to. All in all it's a good program. The requirements are that you have to be 16-24, low income, and willing to dedicate your time for this program. I'm not sure about the money thing with you owing your college money so I would speak with your admissions counselor about that.
