Turn off laptop screen, but not external monitor?
-
I have a Toshiba laptop connected to an external monitor, which I often use to watch TV programs/films (because it's bigger screen and better picture quality). Whilst watching these though, I want to be able to turn the display of my laptop off, so that the glow isn't distracting at all. However, I want to preserve the dual-monitor extended display setup. For example, if I watched the film on my laptop, I could physically turn off the second monitor and all open windows on that display would still be in the same place, just the screen itself is turned off so I can't see them. I want the same thing to happen with the laptop screen, so the current layout is still preserved, I just can't see it. Is there a (free) piece of software that can do this, or does anyone know of batch commands that can be used to do this? Thanks in advance, Jake

Answer:
Its easy to turn off the display on your laptop. all you do is right click on your desktop and go to your screen resolution settings. then under display, you select multiple monitors. after this go to multiple displays and select "show only desktop 2" apply these settings and it should work

Usually one of the FN+Fx key combos controls that. You should be able to toggle between Laptop only, External only, or both. On my ancient Toshiba, it was Fn+F5, my HP is Fn+F4. Though that may only apply when mirroring the screens, not with extended display. You can also just close the lid, just set it so it doesn't sleep/hibernate when you close the lid on AC Power.
