Is there any government/council schemes to provide a guarantor for renting a property? ?
-
Basically I am trying to move in with a close personal friend in the town of Redcar and we have applied for a property that we absolutely love, the only problem is I just transferred location at work so when going through the checks with my current manager my income came up based on what I'd made at the current sight, as it was at the time I'd only done 3 shifts so my income came in very low, the estate agent has said we can have the place if I find a guarantor, at this point I'm also In the situation that my old tenancy has ended so I'm currently crashing on a mates couch, the problem is the only family I have is my father who's credit rating is not good enough to be the guarantor, I've asked everyone I know if they can do it and nobody can, I really don't want to let my friend down either as she is desperate to leave we're she is, so if anyone knows of any schemes the government provide for this please let me know as Ive run out of places to turn but I'm determined to achieve this goal as I'd be paying £225 a month for this house, it's easily affordable for both of us and feel this one thing is keeping me from achieving something that has been my goal for a long time now. If anyone knows of anything that could help me it would be greatly appreciate it. Cheers

Answer:
The local Housing benefit office will sometimes provide the deposit. But this still means you need a Guarantor to cover your part of the rent payments ........... The only way round that I can think of is paying six months rent up front.

Cold hard facts. Without a guarantor, you are not going to get this property. The council *may* have a scheme but as you are new to the area (no local links) you may not qualify and anyway, most landlords don't like council schemes. So what you need to do is to find a property that will accept you. I suspect this may be a room in someone elses place for a while as a lodger has less rights (so is less risk) than a tenant.
