I am looking for sales manager.

Can you complain about a rude sales assistant in a charity shop? 10 points for opinions or help?

  • There is a charity store in my town that my mom went into today and she was very upset after what the sales assistant said. My mom was just asking about a purse that was on the window and apparently in this shop the stuff on the window is sold off only at the end of the month on a first come first served basis. My mom has never been into the store before and simply didn't know this and was just politely asking. But when she asked about the purse the woman there was rude and quite offensive! She said to my mom that she knows someone of her (speaking about my mom) low income must want to buy nice bags at a low prices but the store is for collecting money for the chosen charity and not for giving charity to low income customers by selling her the bag! Not that it even matters but my family is most certainly NOT low income, were higher middle class but what hurts me even more is my mom was just wearing her sweat pants and top that day because she has been to the hospital for a scan and blood tests and was probably tired and pale looking. The fact that a volunteer would say such a thing to a customer based on their appearance disgusts me! My mom was so shocked she didn't say anything at the time but she was in tears by the time she got home. I'm very very angry over this and I want to go in there and complain about that so called sales assistant who put my mother in tears. The only thing is the sales assistant is a volunteer so does that make a difference? Can they fire a volunteer? Is there even a manager of a charity store? I presume there is but just to be sure. I know for a fact that they could easily find a new volunteer because a friend of mine who is 22 was looking for sales assistance experience and offered to volunteer there but they said thank you but they had too many offers of volunteers so far so I know they don't need to keep that nasty piece of work when lots of people have offered to work there. My boyfriend said because it's a charity store I should just let it go but I disagree! I don't think it makes any difference what type of store it is, nobody should be spoken to that way and come home from town in tears! What should I do?

  • Answer:

You can def complain, an angry customer means a lot to the store. It lets them know theyre workers are not doing a good job. Im pretty sure if her/his supervisor was there none of that would of happened

WRITE to the Manager of the branch, give a clear indication of what went on, and INSIST that either the shop assistant offers a personal apology, and receives training for professionalism and good manners, or is sacked. State that if there is no satisfactory outcome, then you will write a scathing letter regarding your mothers treatment to the local paper, asking them to print it.

I think you should write to the shop manager. I'm sure charity shops do have a paid manager as well as volunteer staff. That level of rudeness is completely unacceptable under any circumstances. I would point out in your letter that this assistant is bringing the store into disrepute with her wholly uncalled for remarks. She will lose good customers if she is habitually rude to anyone whose appearance doesn't meet her personal standards. I'm quite certain the charity could easily dispense with this woman's assistance, after all - she is a volunteer and they can simply tell her that her services are no longer required. Although I suspect that they won't do so unless there are been other similar complaints about her in the past, since the incident was not witnessed by anyone who could corroborate your mother's account.
