How should i start leveling the ground for an above ground swimming pool?

  • I need some advice on how or where to start? I want to level the ground this time around for our new swimming pool, i want to do things right. Do i need a permit of any sort? If so how is that process? Does it cost money for permits? Any help or useful information will be greatly appreciated! I know there is a lot of Youtube videos on how to level the ground but personally i don't get much of what i need nor do i have the proper equipment or money. I just need some place to start, i don't know much on how to do these things. Thanks.

    Permits are the auspices of your local zoning committee. Remove the sod and about 6 inches of soil and replace it with sand. Look for and remove liner ruining things. Level with a scree (long straight-edged thingy). Read the instructions that come with the pool, if the used pool you want to use doesn't have the instructions, find another used pool. This bears repeating, read the instructions. Follow the instructions.

I never heard of permits for above ground pools. But some municipalities require a fence. You don't need to remove sod if you just get a load of clean sand to put on top of the ground. Rake it smooth and level with nothing that will punch the liner.
