How can I toggle caps lock when the caps lock key is remapped?

Why does caps lock close the start menu and Windows functions?

  • Hi there, Since a couple of days ago, every time I have the start menu open and press caps lock it closes the start menu. Whenever I try to rename a file within Windows, pressing caps lock closes the rename window! This means if I press caps lock to type a capital letter in the file name, it closes the file name function and I have to right click the file and click the rename button again (and remember to only use shift). This wasn't doing this a couple of days ago and I have made no noticeable changes to my system, anyone had the same problem and found a solution? Before you tell me to stop using caps lock, I am sort of stuck in my ways, and work in a job typing continuously for 8 hours a day ;). Windows shouldn't function like this anyway! Thanks

  • Answer:

Could be a possible keyboard malfunction. If its a desktop, plug in a different keyboard and see if it stops happening. Ifs its a laptop that may be a little difficult...

You need to turn off your Hot Keys in the control panel. Apparently your caps lock is set to be used to close the start menu.
