Traveling with expired Schengen visa / Temp RP?

If I am traveling to Europe on an american passport and my passport visa may have expired a month ago.?

  • If I am traveling to Europe on an american passport and my passport visa may have expired a month ago. Can I still travel to Sydney, Australia or do I have to do some kind of crazy boarder running before hand to renew my visa before going. If so I would need some sort of cheap way of doing this. (this is for a school report on realities of traveling the world.)

    it's true Americans don't need a visa to travel to most of Europe, but there are limitations on how long they can stay, usually 90 days. so, it is possible to have problems over that. there's normally a fine for staying too long that has to be paid before you can leave.

If you are smart, you will get your Australian visa and airline tickets from US to Europe, then Australia, and back to US before departing US. It saves money, time & hassle. You could get a Round-the-world ticket, which is a very nice thing to have - proves onward travel even where US tourists are not required to have a visa for entry for tourism purposes. And you could add a couple of stops, e.g. Singapore! From US State Dept: "You must have a valid U.S. passport and a visa to enter Australia. Most U.S. passport holders traveling to Australia for tourism or business purposes for less than 90 days can obtain an Electronic Travel Authority (ETA). The ETA is an electronic label-free visa and can be obtained at the ETA website for a small service fee. Airlines and many travel agents in the United States are also able to apply for ETAs on behalf of travelers. If you overstay your ETA or any other visa, even for short periods, you may be subject to exclusion, detention, and removal..."

Your question was travel overseas with an expired passport, possible? Obvious ans is. Big NO. You should know this better. One must have min of three to six months of valid passport before leaving the US.
