How to change a dvd format?

Do i need to change the format of videos off my iphone 4 so that they will work on a dvd?

for a school project we have to make a newscast. i videoed every segment using my iphone 4 and i saved the videos to my windows hp. i'm planning on using windows movie maker to put the videos together. then i'm planning on burning the video onto a dvd so my teacher can play it in her dvd player in class. do i need to change the format of the videos- before i put them on movie maker- to make sure that they work on the dvd? or do i just have to change the format of the movie maker video...? i guess i'm just asking if the format that the videos are in straight off my iphone will let them play on a dvd?
