Teaching English in France? Hi there,so I am looking for a job in France and would love to use something that I already know...English! I am a French citizen, but spent 12 years of my life in the US.I am currently 18 and speak English fluently.I would like to take an online course to get a certificate to back up my qualifications, but do not know where to start. Also is it a good job for a person living in France? Thanks in advance to anyone who may answer. :D

Answer:
My situation is actually somewhat comparable to yours: dual US and French citizenship, moved to Paris for 4 years in 1997 after having been raised primarily in the States, and got a job teaching English. Based on my experience, and the experiences of people I met, it doesn't pay much. But it's certainly a good "foot in the door" opportunity. I should also point out that you might feasibly be able to command better wages than what I made, in light of the fact that you're actually looking into obtaining formal training to do this, and are specifically motivated to enter that field. I, on the other hand, had neither the experience nor any particular interest in teaching English - it fell into my lap, so to speak, and the people who hired me were more interested in hiring native speakers on the cheap than in paying more for people truly cut out for that line of work. I'm not sure if you're already familar with FUSAC (France USA Contacts), but I would definitely check there frequently. That's how I found my job all those years ago. http://fusac.fr/ (Needless to say, don't hesitate to check other sources as well, including but not limited to major newspapers such as Le Monde, Le Figaro, etc.) Best of luck to you Gauthier!

You probably will get work but only private and casual, and not very well paid, as you have no qualifications. [school doesn't really count] I take it you've just left school - do you plan to do a degree in English, followed by [if you're living in France] your CAPES to allow you to teach in a lycée? While you are studying, you could use your fluency in English to tutor children, I imagine - but if you are serious about teaching, then you need genuine university-level qualifications.
