I'm writing an essay about pet rats to show my parents that I really researched them and want them. What are some pros and cons about owning any type of pet? What are some pros and cons about owning a rat? Thanks!

Hmm, never owned a rat, but generally the pet spiel goes that they help teach responsibility and offer companionship, followed by assurances that they will be taken care of. I guess an argument for rats would be that they aren't big animals and other than cage cleaning and feeding are pretty low maintenance.
