What does it take to become an Occupational Therapist?

What steps should I take to become a therapist?

  • I want to be either a private practice children therapist. (I think that's what their called. Where your not in a school to provide therapy, but in a therapy office.) Or a therapist that helps adults with depression and anger issues, things like that. I'm going into 8th grade this year, and I would like to know what things to focus on, what I should choose to study when I enter into highschool, and what courses I should take in collage. I also would like to know is moving to the UK to become a therapist is a good idea.

  • Answer:

Your high school classes don't matter. Relevant classes are Psychology, English, Statistics, Sociology, Biology. College. Pursue a Bachelors degree in Psychology then a Masters in Counselling, Marriage and Family Therapy or Psychotherapy. No, if you want to work in the US. You need to study there. Unless you are a UK citizen you won't be able to work there

Other answers

take psychology and other social science courses if they're offered at your high school, it would be a start to learn about the basics. You're still a young guy, you don't have to necessarily make up your mind on your future right now. I'm assuming you live in the U.S., but moving to the UK to become a therapist would not be a great idea because each part of the world teaches their own view on psychology because what's known as a mental disorder in one country might be considered "normal" in another part of the world.
