Does a parcel require a signature for proof of delivery?

Okay, So my parcel bought on Amazon. The item got lost the tracking says posted, I contacted amazon and they said that this means the deliver driver put it through letterbox, amazon have refunded me. Putting it through the letterbox is this proof of delivery? I thought the only way for proof of delivery is if there is a signature, is this true? Also what will happen with this courier will amazon get a lost claim form from them?

unless it is certified and requires signature they will just leave at the door, i would think amazon gives you an option that would require signing but costs more

The only way for proof of delivery is a (real) signature.
The postman should get a warning and you should write a complaint
