What were some byzantine influences on early Russia?

What way did the Decembrist revolt of 1825 influences the policies of Tsar Nicholas 1 of Russia ?

  • Answer:

Where they did have an impact was to turn the Tsar's attention inwards, looking at the problems of the Empire, rather than outwards, towards Prussia, France and the Ottoman Empire as his predecessor, Alexander I had done. Ultimately they had little, or no, impact on Nicholas's policies, except to make him more conservative and repressive: the Autocracy would remain in place for another 80 years - until the 1905 Revolution. It was his minister, Sergei Uvarov, who devised the programme of "Orthodoxy, Autocracy and Nationality" as the guiding principle of the regime. Leading to a clampdown on Jews, Uniate Christians and other non-Russian Orthodox peoples.
