Where is a good place to live around nashville tn?
-
i live in illinois now, but am possibly moving to the nashville area because my gf got a job offer there. I've been there twice in the past couple years and all i know is the downtown nashville bar area. drove through some not so nice areas so obviously gonna try to stay clear of there. i'm used to chicago where there is a good part, and there is a bad part. i've been told the nashville area is good and bad block by block. i dont have to live IN nashville but would like to be about 30 min. near. anyone know of a good area to look into moving?

Answer:
You are right about the block by block business. Before you make a permanent move, I'd come down for a long weekend and do some exploring. If you are planning to buy, get a good real estate agent to show you around. A friend told me about her experience of moving and suggested just sitting in various coffee shops around town for a day and talking to people, asking where they would recommend. However, I'll give you a few areas to look at that are nice. The West End area out beyond Vanderbilt has some nice homes and apartments. You'll find some older neighborhoods of cute little houses if you get off the main roads. Also look at West Meade which is next door to the very pricey Belle Meade and much more reasonably priced. To the north of Nashville, look at the suburb of Hendersonville which is less expensive and very nice. To the south, look at the Lenox Village area of Brentwood which is like a little city with houses, apartments and a whole little shopping village. And then just a little farther south is Nolensville which is a cute smaller town but very convenient to getting into the city. I'm not sure why you don't want to go to Franklin because it is an excellent choice with all price points. Another idea is to go east if the commuter train is convenient for your trip into town. The Music City Star runs out from the riverfront to Donelson, Hermitage, Mt. Juliet, Martha and Lebanon. See http://www.musiccitystar.org/Middle-TN-RTA-stations.asp for more info on the train. And one other idea is for your girlfriend to talk with her new coworkers. They will be happy to give her information. Hope you have a successful move.
