Medical Career in the Air Force?

As a certified medical assistant what kind of career can I have in the US Air Force?

  • I'm about to graduate from college, and I am planning on taking the national certification test to become a certified medical assistant. I want to take the skills, and knowledge I've received in college and the work experience I've gained through externship and apply them to a career in the US Air Force. I want to know what kind of career I can obtain in the US Air Force, with a certification saying that I'm a medical assistant, I'm also open to other branches as well.

  • Answer:

I'm not too sure about medical assistant. But doctors, surgeons, dentists, etc. all stay in their field and join as officers (generally start at Captain or O-3 pay with specialty bonus I think). Talk to a recruiter or your closest ROTC detachment, active base, etc. to find out more specifics.

Isn't a medical assistant just like a year long course? If I'm not mistaken, MA's are the lowest of the medical totem pole (MA, CNA, LVN, RN, MD). That being the case, it doesn't really give you the upper hand on any particular job, but of course a medic would be closest to it. You'd still have to go through the same process that anyone else would though.
