What is the difference between the VW Golf and the VW Gti?

What's the difference between the VW Rabbit, Golf & GTI?!?

  • I'm looking to get my first car , & really wanted a GTI but they're too pricey for me /: i noticed the rabbit & golf look exactly like it , plus a little cheaper. I just wanted to know what the difference is & if these car would make good 1st car for a 17 year old girl.

  • Answer:

Rabbit is Golf itself but was called Rabbit outside of the US.Some ended up across with the name but after some EPA evaluation & safety upgrade they sarted being called Golf. There are from Meice & Latin America still sold under that name. But when it comes to GTI,it's a differrent story.A GTI is kinna golf on drug.Mean, powerfull, fast, modern and a sport car.It is the GTI that became an R32 later on.An aggressive racing steert machine. If u are 17 & responsible go for the GTI.

GTI is just the sports trim of them. The differences between them depends on the year. Cabrio is pretty much the same as them also but the convertible.

The Rabbit and Golf are the same car. It was called the Rabbit when it was first sold in the US in the 1970s. The GTI is the sporty version.

The rabbit and golf are simply different names and the same car, if you get a "rabbit" call it a golf since thats what it is. The GTI is simply a faster version of the rabbit/golf. It handles better and more powerful. The GTI would be for someone who loves burnouts and smoking people at stoplights while the rabbit/golf are calm, economical, good performance, reliable, and still very fun to drive. And yes the golf/rabbit would be an excellent car for you. Try to get one above 2002 since ones below that have had major electrical problems

The Rabbit is a Golf. It was just renamed for a few years in the US. The Golf was called a Rabbit from 1974 - 1983, and then again from 2006 - 2008. The difference with the GTI depends on the year, but in general has a more powerful engine option, such as DOHC or turbo charging instead of SOHC normal aspirated, Ricarro seats, allow wheels, and trim package. I believe the GTI is also always a 2 door hatchback. I would skip the GTI because it would cost more to maintain, and require premium gasoline.

Rabbit was the replacement for the air cooled Beetle. It was the first with a water cooled engine. It is also constructed differently, doing spot weld instead of long welds which made them weaker in accidents than the old bug. From the Rabbit - the US changed the name to GOLF for the same car which was made in the US. Just nameplate is different., seats are different and minor things. The Polo is also a Rabbit by another name.. So to is the New Beetle -except they changed the body to a Beetlish type thing. (frame, engine, running gear are still all the same) The early Rabbits had electrical problems due to leakage so that cut its life short. GTI is just another nameplate.(which is a bit of chrome) Because of the electrical problems it has, I would look to a Toyota or Honda instead

I ONLY can be wrong at worst

The golf and rabit are basically the same car,the names changed in different years.the golf and the GTI are the same car with different mechanics,as the GTI is quite quick and offers lousey fuel mileags. The new golf comes in three varieties, the golf with a gas engine the golf/gti with a gas that is supped up for performance, and the golf with a diesel engine.the diesel is the best of the three.
