Why do so many scams come from Nigeria?

Who came up with the idea that scammers are from NIGERIA?

  • That is the most idiotic thing you'll ever here, once you come to realize that none of that is true and that those poor people are RACIALLY profiled and no one gives a hoot simply because they are blacks from another country?!!! I am personally sick of hearing that "those scams" were invented or developed in NIGERIA. That is NOT TRUE. They are simply being used as scapegoats.

Everyone who has ever done business on Craigslist or eBay knows about the scam where the "wealthy businessman" offers to pay several hundred dollars extra to ship your item because he wants it as a 'gift' for his cousin in....NIGERIA! If the scammers aren't based in Nigeria, why do they invariably ask you to send your items to Nigeria? Why is are there so many Nigeria based scams that the Nigerian government enacted laws to combat it (hence, the name '419' scam')? You may wish to read the article linked below for more.
