How can get I get a replacement for a stolen naturalization certificate?

How to get a certificate of Naturalization?

  • I am a naturalized citizen because both my parents became U.S Citizens after coming to the country. Where can I get a certificate of Naturalization?

  • Answer:

You are NOT -- let me repeat that -- NOT a naturalized citizen, and therefore you cannot obtain a Certificate of Naturalization, ever. If you were under the age of 18 (which is the minimum age for naturalization, by the way) when your parent naturalized, and became a citizen automatically when that happened, then it's by act of law, the Child Citizenship Act of 2000, to be precise. If you'd like to spend $600 on a piece of paper that's not needed, then you can file an N-600 with USCIS and it will eventually get you a Certificate of Citizenship, not Naturalization. This Certificate's only purpose is to get you your first US passport. Thereafter the US passport will serve as proof of US citizenship. If you want a US passport, however, you don't need a Certificate as your citizenship is not in question. All you need to do is go to the passport office with your Green Card and one of your parents and apply for one.

As noted in the first answer, you will be applying for a Certificate of Citizenship rather than certificate of naturalization if you derived citizenship through your parents naturalization.
