What car is the cheapest to insure and good for a first car?

What is a cheap first car to insure?

  • Taking lessons at the moment, looking for a decent but cheap to insure car. I am aware it will cost a lot to begin with, but need rough estimates. And please don't say Ford KA haha :P

  • Answer:

"Cheap" is a relative term for a new driver. Think in terms of £3k for the smallest engined, lowest insurance group cars out there. Pug 107/Citroen C1, Fiat Panda, VW Fox, some of the smaller Korean things I can't remember the names of (Kias and the like) will be the least expensive to insure out of the new cars.

iv been looking in to it as i want to get a car for my 17th im a guy so its alot more but through my searching i got a quote 3,500 which was with a car the daily mail recommended as the cheapest to insure i then tried the ford ka like a 1996 one and it went down to 2,000

My ford ka cost more than my current Peugeot 106 1.1 that's cheap enough for me but still nearly £100 a month... I'd have a look at some cars on autotrader get their reg and compare the cost of insurance (which is an estimate and changes over time)

A small engine and an older car will get you insurance that isn't through the roof Try around 02 plate, Corsa, Clio or whatever small care you fancy

you should look for a car with a small engine ... 0.9 - 1.1 Litre, don't get one that has alloy wheels (usually a sports model (more expensive))

Ka not cheap - engine too big 5 to 9 year old Corsa basic model 1.0 litre
