How to downsample a texture?

My cats liked the Grilled Fancy Feast, what healthier brands come in that flaky texture?

  • i know fancy feast inst the healthiest canned food for my cats so i have been trying to switch them to a healthier brand. i have tried several without success and i think its because of the texture. my cats like the grilled fancy feast because of the flaky texture. but the other canned foods i have tried are the puree (not sure if that's what it is called) texture. i have tried welness, evo, natural balance, halo and innova. i feed them dry food as well the Natures balance LID. (i am pretty sure it is grain free) it took me months to switch from friskies dry to the Natures balance LID. i have tried to mix the wet foods to get them used to the different texture but either of them will go for it. sooooo my question is... is there a healthier brand of wet cat food that has the flaky texture like the fancy feast grilled versions?

  • Answer:

Wellness has a new minced and sliced variety. Blue Buffalo Wilderness also has the same, and they make a Healthy Gourmet that is minced. You may want to try those. Merrick also has a chunky kind with names like Grammy's Pot Pie and Thanksgiving Dinner. Petco also sells their Soulistic brand that is shredded. Give some of those a try.

Switching foods for a pet is always tricky after they are used to one brand. Cats, especially, can be stubborn about it. I had one cat that I had to completely stop the moist food and just leave out dry for her constantly. She didn't eat for a few days, but eventually she got hungry enough and did start eating the dry. After about a month, I gave her a can of the new moist food I wanted her to try and she ate it like it was going to vanish if she left it. Just remember, you may be their human, but they are your cats/kids.

Good for you for learning about cat nutrition and switching, I wish more people would. Cats can be very finicky but Blue Buffalo has a few options of sliced or flaked or even cubed food. Those are all in a gravy. All of Blue Buffalo's products are at Petsmart while only some of them are at Petco. But they have a lot you can try. Besides that, if they like lots of gravy, try Soulistic, thats only at Petco. Not a lot of healthier brands have many flaked options unfortunately.

If you can get the Merrick ones those are flakey and better for her. Mine LOVE the Gramma's Pot Pie (flaked chicken you could almost eat!)
