Difference between battery chargers?

What are compatible chargers for the Nikon EN-EL5 Battery?

  • I have a NIKON COOLPIX P510. I am using the included CHARGING AC ADAPTER EH-69P to charge the also supplied EN-EL5 battery. I also bought an EXTRA EN-EL5 battery for spare. After reading the manual of this spare battery, I found out that you can only use the MH-61 BATTERY CHARGER. I was shocked because I thought they were exactly the same since they both have the same model name.I am wondering if it is true that you can only use the MH-61 BATTERY CHARGER or I can use my CHARGING AC ADAPTER EH-69P to charge my spare battery, which will save me from buying another charger. Thanks for your help. :)

  • Answer:

The MH-61 is a battery charger and the EH-69P is used to power the camera (and will charge the battery that is in the camera). The reason the spare battery says to use the charger is that not all cameras have (or can use) an AC adapter. So, for your camera, you could put one battery in the charger, and then hook the EH-69P up to the camera and charge the other battery in the camera.

Other answers

Did you buy a genuine replacement battery or a 3rd party knock-off. If it is a genuine replacement, and is exactly the same battery (no difference in the suffix), then it should work with your original charger.
