How do I get a career in institutional sales?

I'm looking to get into a career as a pharmaceutical sales representative, info?

  • How is the job availability for this? What would be a better major? Chemistry or business? What are the chances I could get right into it after college? If I can't what jobs would I be looking for to get the "experience" they're looking for? What's the average salary? How's the mobility as far as promotions? And how do people in this field enjoy the position? I've researched a lot of this on my own so don't just be a prick and say to look it up. I'm just trying to get direct answers from people to compare. Thanks for the help.

  • Answer:

My sister was a Pharm rep for about 20 years. Her degree was in Business Marketing; which is sales. The drug companies have chemists. There is a lot of home work, keeping up with new drugs and all their particulars. Her compnay was bought and sold 4 times and she survived until the last merger. Now she sells Real Estate.
