Applying for jobs online?

Why do jobs never call back when applying online?

  • I've applied to many stores and they always say to apply online but I have yet to receive a phone call from these places. Am I supposed to call back the company or do I just keep waiting? I feel like applying for jobs online is useless. PLEASE someone help what do I do? Do I call?

  • Answer:

We put a job listing on monster. We received 17 responses, only 3 were remotely qualified. Ok, our job description was poor, our bad. We emailed the 3 qualified candidates asking for additional information. The other 14, Mary did not bother. Always try to call these places and talk to a human. Real people provide better information than a ad. You also prep them to look for your application. The day after you send in the application, call them back, did they receive it, How does it look. One poor guy sent it in a strange font, and printed out 16 pages. Not professional looking. After they have acknowledged they have received your application, ask how frequently the hiring manager reviews them, and who is the hiring manager. I was told by one HR, the manager wanted to see 10 qualified engineers, in addition to me. It took 3 months, by then 8 of the qualified candidates had already found jobs and wanted more money. The HR manager took another 3 months, with the same result. Call them back every two weeks. HR has a bad habit of loosing applications that don't call back. The goal of this is not to get a job, but to get a interview.
