Is there a blue diode in the PS2 (the older one?

Could i use three 1N4007 silicon diode instead of one 1N5408 silicon diode? ?

  • Could i use three 1N4007 silicon diode instead of one 1N5408 silicon diode? My aim is to allow 3A current in only one direction. But i dont have diode of 3A i.e. 1N5408 . As 1N4007 is of 1 amps capacity could use three 1N4007 in parallel

  • Answer:

This should work, but it's not a great idea, because the parallel diodes will not share current equally. If you really need 3 amps continuous, then you should use 6 diodes in parallel to be sure none of them is overloaded.

Question: As 1N4007 is of 1 amps capacity could use three 1N4007 in parallel to give me a total current of 3 amps. Answer: You could, but no: that is NOT a good idea. Why? Because you cannot guarantee that each diode will pass only one amp.; one diode might try to take all the current - and then that diode will fail, since it is only rated at 1 amp. You could, in theory, connect low-ohmic value resistors in series with each diode to equalise the currents, but that is a very clumsy way of doing it. 1N5408 diodes are cheap: use one of them and keep it simple.

For emergency temporary repair you could do it if it was used in a regular 60c/s power rectifier . If it was used as high current pulsing or switching, for safer repair, put six pieces in parallel.

Sure, the 1n4007 is rated at 1A but can peak at 30A so you will probably be alright with 3. Although I would probably go with 4 just to be on the safe side.
