Are irregular periods okay?

Trying to get pregnant with irregular periods..?

• Here is my story.. I have had irregular periods since I started at age 13. My period may come once a month for 2 to 3 months, then I won't have one for 4 to 5 months. I got on birth control pills at 17. This made my periods like clockwork. Then once I have gotten married and want to get pregnant I quit my pills. I had some periods every month to every 2 months. My periods have moderate bleeding. My last period was on Jan. 28....but I did bleed one day April 2nd and it was hardly any at all and it was brown. I have took numerous pregnancy tests and I am not pregnant. But I have always had irregular periods like this sometimes once a month, then maybe go 4 to 5 months without one. I also stay constipated all the time. I have to take Miralax to go to the bathroom, if not I cannot go. Don't know if that has anything to do with it or not but I have that trouble! So anyways, my question is how can you get pregnant with irregular periods like this? Will an ovulation kit do you any good if your periods are irregular? I know how to count my cycle and know what days to ovulate but with this irregular cycle it is IMPOSSIBLE to do that! Any suggestions?? Help!

  The constipation thing might be a clue that you may want to get your thyroid checked (a blood test), especially if you are overweight, or find it very easy to put on weight. Being a healthy weight (being neither overweight or underweight/excessively exercising) is important, and can help you ovulate more regularly but its very difficult to change! You can do ovulation kits, or learn how to do sympto-thermal fertility checking, where you take your early morning temperature and watch for body signals. You can also just have sex every second day, to increase your chances just in case you ovulate. One of the hardest things is to control your stress level, but if you can, that will really increase your chances of pregnancy/ovulating. Wishing you all the best!
