Parents please listen to my argument?!?
-
I want to be home schooled. Right now, my pare ya are saying no, but have asked me to write down why I want to be homeschooled. Please listen to what I've come up with and respond as you would if you were my parent. Thanks. Why I want to be home schooled: (1) I feel that the social aspect of school is making it harder for me to learn. I am completely fine with interacting with people, but being judged by what clothes I wear and who I hang out with is difficult. I am not antisocial. If school is about learning, let me make it about learning. (2) I can learn at my own pace and not waste time. I can finish my work quickly If I want and move on. Every morning I'll get up and start at 8:30, just like every other kid. I'm not gonna sleep in and do nothing. I work diligently when left to my own devices. I focus better when I'm left alone. Counter-arguments: (1). It's not challenging. It can be. Online school offers honors and A.P. classes. You can even take college courses. The classes you take are suited to you. (2). I'll become antisocial. I won't. I have plenty of relationships I want to invest in. There are many friends at church that I love to hang out with. The online school I looked at offers field trips and extra activities. (3). You won't get teacher instruction. Yes I will. Connections Academy, the school I am interested in, has live classes where the teacher actually teaches you an you must answer questions and interact with other students. They are always available if I need help or assistance.

Answer:
I can understand the social aspect being different for people, but it does help me learn. I think that is just a personal preference. Your second argument is a little tough. Sure, you say you will do all of that stuff and be ahead of your peers, but its all about what you actually do. You don't know if you will be motivated to be home schooled and could just end up slacking off. Also, colleges like seeing that you've gone to public schools or private schools more than home schools. Being home schooled usually means you wont get the professional help a student needs and you won't have opportunities for extra-curriculars. Also, n the end you will definetly become less social, you will not see your friends as much and they may move on due to the lack of contact. All in all, home schooling is not the right path, stick to public/private school, you don't understand how lucky you are to be going to one.

Sounds good...nothing antisocial about it. Just invite friends over for a sleep over, slumber party, or a pizza party, a cup cake party, movie night. So it doesnt have to be antisocial. Homeschoolers dont have the silly distractions that schools do so it's better and you do learn quicker. Good luck.

I was homeschooled for elementary school and middle school. I became antisocial because I never learned how to be social:) Im in college now and I've gotten over it. By the way I didnt have teacher. I just had a book and work and sent it halfway across the country for grading. I taught myself and always scored higher than average on those tests. Anywhere you go to school its all what you make it. Usually teachers can only provide extra resources for the already motivated not motivate the lazy ones who just squeak by. You sound old enough to have already learned how to make friends and take responsibilty for your own education. Way to go! I'm not a parent but you sound like you'd do just fine if not better at home.

If I was your parent I would figure it out. My parents were very easy with me :p I skipped school one day, said I wanted to be homeschooled, and they enrolled me and I'm VERY popular at my school! :D I'm not anit-social! P.S. CA (Connections Academy) is the first home school I ever went to... I was a straight A student then I got D's and F's!!! In the online classes (I went last year so they could be doing something different) you CAN'T comment you CAN'T speak you CAN'T say anything sometimes... But, I think it depends who your teacher is. It's all up to you anyways ;) I now go to BOSS which is only for Ohio buuut... I'm sure there's other schools like BOSS if you don't like CA!
